A third person has been arrested over a hit and run in Brighton in which a man from Hove was left for dead.
Sussex Police said that the 30-year-old man was held on suspicion of arson, perverting the course of justice and causing serious injury by dangerous driving.
He has been released on police bail until Sunday 3 April while the police investigation continues.
The arrest came just over a week after police asked the public for help tracing a man who was seen buying lighter fluid about an hour after the hit and run crash.
The suspect was shown in CCTV pictures from a convenience store in Donald Hall Road, Brighton.
The hit and run crash happened at 3.40pm on Thursday 14 January when a man crossing the road was sent flying by a Fiat 500 in Montague Place, Kemp Town.
The victim, 53-year-old Andy Payne, from Hove, suffered serious injuries but has been released from hospital and is reported to be recovering well.
Two other people have been arrested. A 31-year-old man from Brighton was arrested on suspicion of driving a car dangerously, causing serious injury by dangerous driving, aggravated vehicle taking, failing to stop at the scene of a crash, driving without a licence or insurance and trying to pervert the course of justice.
A 56-year-old woman has been arrested on suspicion of trying to pervert the course of justice.
They have also both been bailed until Sunday 3 April while inquiries continue.
