Brighton Kemptown MP Simon Kirby has held a meeting with representatives from Highways England to discuss improvements to the A27.
The Conservative MP hopes that the £75 million upgrade of the main east-west trunk road through Sussex will help ease jams on the seafront A259.
He was joined by some of his fellow Sussex MPs at the meeting yesterday (Thursday 21 January).
Mr Kirby said that – after the Chancellor George Osborne announced that he would fund improvements to the A27 last year – he set up a meeting with Transport Minister Andrew Jones.
East Sussex MPs, councillors and council officers went along to the meeting, in November, and discussed the best way to spend the money.
They all clarified their desire that the money be put towards a large-scale ambitious project to alleviate current capacity and safety issues.
Mr Kirby said: “As chair of the A27 Reference Group, I was pleased to be able to have this meeting yesterday with Highways England to discuss improvements to the A27.
“We are working on a long-term plan to improve the road and I am hoping that these improvements will ease some of the pressure from the A259 in my constituency.”
Lewes MP and former Brighton councillor Maria Caulfield also went to the meeting yesterday. She said that Highways England planned to offer local people a number of choices in the autumn which would be discussed as part of a public consultation.
At least 50 years since The Honiton to Folkestone Trunk Rd was first planned and still there are bottlenecks everywhere.
Needs a bypass at Worthing. This was discussed to my knowledge, at least 40 years ago, but was eventually scrapped. The queues at Lyons Farm are a nightmare!
Ha, what a coincidence! After many years of thinking about how and where regarding a By-Pass, I have just sent a Tunnel Plan to West and East Worthing Labour. See the link below:

I do hope you like the seafront tram route (STR) too.
