Brighton and Hove City Council’s street-cleansing service Cityclean will be out with the local community in Whitehawk on Thursday 10 September as part of a series of local clean up days that are being established around the city.
The initiative is part of the service’s drive to spearhead a community engagement programme to work more closely with residents throughout Brighton and Hove.
The Cityclean team will be led by area operations’ manager, Damien Marmura, with five members of the street cleaning team. They will be joined by Anne Glow, of the Whitehawk tenants association and several members of the local community.
Warren Morgan, leader of the council, and councillor Gill Mitchell, chair of the environment committee, will also be there to support what the council hopes will be the start of an exciting partnership between residents of Brighton & Hove and Cityclean.
Councillor Morgan said: “Brighton & Hove is a diverse and eclectic city with people from all walks of life and as a council we want to work with community groups to provide the best possible service that’s right for them. I encourage anyone who thinks that they can contribute to their own neighbourhood and help to organise an event like today to get in contact with Cityclean.”
Anne Glow said: “We are a proud community here in Whitehawk and we recognise that keeping the estate clean is the responsibility of us all. So we’re really happy to be out here today with the support of Cityclean and the leader of the council, to be a part of something worthwhile for everyone in the estate and the city.”
Councillor Mitchell added: “The community clean ups will complement the deep clean initiative we’ve been doing in the city centre and underlines the council’s commitment to supporting residents and community groups to improve their neighbourhoods.”
