Thousands of people in Brighton and Hove have undiagnosed hearing loss, according to a company that carries out hearing tests and supplies hearing aids.
Hidden Hearing, of Western Road, Hove, said that new research suggested that half the population had not had a hearing test.
It said: “It’s estimated that there are 50,000 people in Brighton and Hove with hearing loss, yet nearly 20,000 of these are undiagnosed.”
The company is holding a hearing awareness event in Brighton on Tuesday 15 September, with music from Rock Choir.
It said that it was holding the free lunchtime concert this month because September was Hearing Awareness Month.
The concert, from 1pm to 1.30pm in the Pavilion Gardens, Brighton, will be attended by Hilary Jones, medical adviser to Hidden Hearing since 2012.
The company added: “Dr Hilary Jones will be joined by the UK’s largest contemporary choir, Rock Choir, to remind people of the pleasure that music brings to our lives and the importance of looking after our hearing to be able to experience the joys of music.”
Hidden Hearing also plans to offer free hearing tests in a mobile hearing unit throughout the day, from 9.30am until 5pm.
