The mother of one of the victims of the Shoreham airshow crash has spoken out about his death.
Sue Grimstone, from Brighton, told the Daily Telegraph: “Airshows should be over the sea. It should never have been over that road. It’s such a waste.”
Her son Matt Grimstone, 23, a former Varndean pupil who worked for Brighton and Hove Albion on the club’s ground staff, was on his way to way to play for Worthing United.
The goalkeeper, who used to play for Mile Oak, died alongside fellow Worthing United footballer Jacob Schilt, 23, from Brighton.
Mrs Grimstone and her husband Phil and Matt Grimstone’s brothers David and Paul paid tribute. The Grimstones said: “The family are in total shock at losing our dearest son Matthew so tragically at 23 years old.
“He was the kindest person you could ever meet with a great wit. In his 23 years, we can honestly say he never lost his temper.”
The Civil Aviation Authority said that it would look at whether the safety rules around airshows should be tightened up.
