A man from Hove was one of two people taken to hospital with serious injuries after a crash on the A259 seafront road. He suffered injuries to his neck and to a foot and a hand.
The other driver – a 46-year-old from Lancing – suffered serious head and back injuries in the crash in Brighton Road, Shoreham, by the Frosts garage.
East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service sent crews from Hove, Worthing and Shoreham to free the 46-year-old driver of a blue Morris van.
They had to use specialist cutting gear after the van ended up on its side as a result of the crash.
The 28-year-old Hove man, who was driving a grey Vauxhall Corsa, was also taken by ambulance to the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton.
The accident happened shortly before 11pm last night (Saturday 8 August) and the road was closed until just after 2am.
