A pensioner from Brighton has been banned from the roads after he was caught drink driving for the second time.
William Seed, 68, was arrested at 3.45pm on Friday 19 June after he parked over a junction in Edward Street, Brighton.
Seed had 77 micrograms of alcohol per 100 millilitres of his breath – more than twice the 35 micrograms legal limit.
He had previously served a three-year ban for drink driving imposed in 2000.
Seed, of Whitehawk Road, Brighton, pleaded guilty to drink driving when he appeared at Brighton Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday (15 July).
He was banned from driving for 18 months, fined £280 and ordered to pay £235 costs and a £28 victim surcharge.
Another driver, Gary McCue, 51, has also been banned after being found slumped over his car’s steering wheel.
McCue was arrested at 2.10am on Saturday 27 June after officers found him in his Renault Scenic in Marine Parade, Brighton.
The 51-year-old had 110 micrograms of alcohol per 100 millilitres of his breath – more than three times the legal limit.
McCue, of Manor Way, Brighton, pleaded guilty to being drunk in charge of a vehicle when he appeared at Brighton Magistrates’ Court on Monday 29 June.
He was banned from driving for six months, ordered to do 300 hours of community service and made the subject of a 12-month community order. One of the conditions of his community order is that he be treated for alcohol addiction.
Sussex Police said: “A total of 71 people have so far been convicted of offences as part of Sussex Police’s summer Operation Dragonfly drink and drug driving campaign.”
