A group of London to Brighton cyclists became involved in a scrap last Sunday which ended with a woman’s bike being stolen.
Police were called to Woodie’s Longboard Diner in Portslade at 3.25pm by a woman who said she and a friend had been confronted by four cyclists at Hove Lagoon and were afraid the situation could escalate.
And while they were waiting for officers to arrive, one of the woman’s bikes was taken.
This video, shot by a witness from the window of the diner, shows the two groups confronting each other in the street.
A police spokeswoman said: “Police received a call from a woman cyclist at 3.25pm on Sunday (21 June) saying she and friend had been sitting at Hove Lagoon with their bikes nearby when a group of four cyclists passed and one of them collided with the stationary bikes. The group of men then became verbally abusive towards the women.
“The two women walked away towards Portslade leaving their bikes near Woodies Longboard Diner and called police because they were scared. They waited for the police but when they returned to their bikes one of them, an £80 mountain bike, had gone.
“Police are checking CCTV from businesses in the area and are keen to talk to a witness who intervened when the men were being abusive towards the women.
“If you are that witness or have any information contact police on 101@sussex.pnn.police.uk or phone 101 quoting serial 0920 of 21/06.”
