A lorry turning off the seafront in Brighton ran over a two-year-old girl and left her with a broken leg.
The driver failed to stop and is now being hunted by Sussex Police.
The force said: “A two-year-old girl suffered a broken leg after she and a lorry were in collision in Middle Street, Brighton, shortly after 1pm on Friday (12 June).
“The lorry, coloured purple or maroon, failed to stop and police are now seeking witnesses to try to trace the driver.
“The girl had been on the pavement with her mother when the lorry turned off the A259 King’s Road and into Middle Street, mounting the kerb as it did so.
“The injured youngster, from Eastbourne, was taken to the Royal Sussex County Hospital, Brighton, for treatment.”
PC Christina Lane, of the Roads Policing Unit at Haywards Heath, said: “I understand several people saw what happened and shouted for the lorry to stop.
“But it did not do so and witnesses are now being sought to identify the vehicle involved.”
