A Brighton man has launched a campaign to raise money for a widower whose late wife’s rings were stolen the day before her funeral.
Colin Watts, 69, returned home on Tuesday to find burglars had taken her wedding and engagement rings, as well as £800 intended to pay for her funeral on Wednesday.
After reading about his plight, graphic designer Adam Richardson decided to to try and raise some money to help the widower with his costs.
Mr Richardson said: “I was shocked at how awful it must be for the gentleman. It struck a chord because we recently had a death in the family and it made me think how it would have made me feel.
“I immediately wondered whether he was able to pay for the funeral and I hoped there would be a way of getting that money back.
“The Argus put me in touch with Colin and he told me what he was going through. I explained what I was willing to do as a gesture of goodwill and hopefully it will cheer him up.
“I’m hoping that this might help him a little bit and hopefully people will support it.”
