An arsonist started a fire in the doorway of flats in Brighton, blocking the way out, early yesterday (Thursday 19 March).
Sussex Police issued an appeal for witnesses to the arson attack today (Friday 20 March).
The force said: “Police investigating a suspected arson attack in Pelham Square, Brighton, are appealing for any witnesses to come forward.”
“At about 3.45am on Thursday (19 March) a fire was found outside the front door of a flat, blocking a potential escape route for anyone inside.
“Fortunately, the fire was put out before it spread and no one was hurt.”
Detective Constable David Rose, of Brighton CID, said: “Such incidents are extremely dangerous and could easily lead to serious damage, injury or loss of life.
“We’d like to hear from anyone who noticed anything suspicious in this area during the early hours on Thursday.”
