Eagle-eyed door staff helped Brighton police catch a suspected hugger mugger in West Street.
Bouncers on the door at the Molly Malone’s pub alerted police to the man repeatedly hugging people in the early hours of Sunday, February 22.
This is now a popular way for pickpockets to frisk their victims for valuables.
And although no reports of missing items were made in the area that night, when police stopped the suspect, he was found to be wanted for a theft in Manchester.
The Brighton and Hove Crime Reduction Partnership said: “Without your eyes and your ears we cannot do our jobs so thank you.
“Great work once again – when it works it works.”
