Albion and Cardiff fought out a fairly dire goalless draw. Both sides were restricted to just one shot on target each.
The bright spot for Albion was the return of Dale Stephens from a long-term injury.
New signing Beram Kayal made his full league debut for the club.
Albion are now outside the relegation zone on goal difference only and travel to Hillsborough to play Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday (14 February) – a ground where they have not won in living memory.
Albion then have back to back home games against Birmingham City and Leeds United.
