The Horse and Groom has now closed its doors as the campaign to save it from being sold to developers hots up.
Landlord Pat called time for the last time on Thursday night, after giving owners notice on the lease late last year.
The pub was advertised for sale for a while, but then taken off the market – with Enterprise saying it is “reviewing its options”.
But campaigners fear that like other Brighton Enterprise pubs such as the Rose Hill Tavern and nearby London Unity and Albion Inn, it is being sold for residential use, and on Sunday, scores gathered outside the pub to show their support.
They are now trying to get it listed as an asset of community value before any sale goes through, as this will give them six months to raise money for a bid to buy the pub themselves.
