Detectives investigating a New Year’s Day incident in Brighton in which a 23-year-old man was struck on the head with a metal pole and then punched in the face have appealed for witnesses.
The incident took place outside Volks Tavern in Madeira Drive at about 6.30am when the victim was approached by a man who snatched a mobile phone from his hand before assaulting him.
The victim, from Oxfordshire, suffered a suspected fractured cheekbone and was treated in hospital.
A 30-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of assault and has been released on bail until Monday 2 March while inquiries continue.
