A woman from Hove has been convicted of stealing bar takings totalling £1,388 by Brighton magistrates.
The court was told that she stole the money in April while working for Sodexo at the American Express Community Stadium, home of Brighton and Hove Albion, in Falmer.
Mary Nicole Bogaert, 25, of Langdale Road, Hove, denied theft but was convicted and given a 12-week prison sentence suspended for a year.
The bench said that it found “this offence was motivated wholly or partly by hostility towards persons who are of a particular sexual orientation”.
Bogaert was made the subject of a supervision order and told to attend ten sessions on the Inspire rehabilitation programme over the coming year – and to pay £150 compensation.
She was given an extra two weeks suspended sentence after she admitted using threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour or disorderly behaviour at the Sussex Police Custody Centre in Hollingbury.
The incident happened in July after she was arrested for stealing a Barbour ladies Axel quilted jacket worth £159 from Aston Bourne, in East Street, Brighton.
She admitted theft and was ordered to pay £50 compensation. The £200 total is to be deducted from her benefits.
