Firefighters from Brighton and Hove spent more than an hour tackling a swaying cast iron drain pipe safe at a busy crossroads this afternoon (Saturday 8 November).
High winds blew the heavy pipe away from the building at the corner of Old Shoreham Road and Nevill Road.
Crews from Hove Fire Station and Preston Circus in Brighton were called to the scene at about 3pm and – unable to secure the cast iron pipe safely to the building – pulled it away. They used the aerial ladder platform from Preston Circus.
Officers from Sussex Police directed queuing traffic at the busy crossroads, which includes the top of Sackville Road.
