A taxi driver has been landed with a bill of more than £900 for knocking a woman off her bike and then driving away in Brighton.
On Friday 2 May at about 8am the victim, a 20-year-old woman from Brighton, was cycling along London Road and was near to the corner of Harrington Road when the taxi hit her.
Mehrdad Kaivanpor, the taxi driver, was traced and summonsed to court charged with driving without due care and attention and failing to stop at the scene of an accident.
The 33-year-old, of Clermont Terrace, Brighton, appeared at Brighton Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday 29 October. He admitted failing to stop and pleaded not guilty to careless driving. He was, however, found guilty of careless driving.
He was given nine penalty points and a fine of £155 for failing to stop, with a £20 victim surcharge, and he was fined £110 for careless driving and ordered to pay costs of £650.
And he’s allowed to continue working as a taxi driver?!
