A clinic is opening for OCD (obsessive compulsive disorder) patients in Brighton and Hove.
Sussex Partnership NHS Foundation Trust said today (Friday 10 October) that the condition affected up to 60,000 people across the county.
The new clinic will form part of the Brighton and Hove Wellbeing Service which is run in partnership with the Brighton and Hove Integrated Care Service (BICS), Mind and Turning Point.
It comes after Sussex Partnership opened its first OCD clinic in East Sussex with the Health in Mind service.
The clinics use cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) as a way to help people with OCD to break the cycle by gradually reducing their rituals and repetitive behaviours with the help of experts.
But CBT doesn’t help everyone so the clinic is also researching alternative treatments for people with OCD.
Laura Lea, OCD clinic lived experience lead, said: “Research which takes place in the clinic will help improve treatments and understanding of the problems that people with OCD face.”
Those attending the OCD clinic will meet a clinical expert who will take the time to talk about their specific difficulties and the treatments that may be most helpful.
