Nottingham Forest 0 Brighton and Hove Albion 0
Brighton and Hove Albion earned a point at the City Ground which cost unbeaten Nottingham Forest their place at the top of the Championship.
Michael Mancienne might have nicked all three points for the hosts right at the death but couldn’t steer his header, from a Ben Osborn corner, into the net.
Adrian Colunga and Craig Mackail-Smith both had decent chances for Albion but the match was dominated by a defensive approach, punctuated by counter-attacks, and rather scrappy at times.
The goalkeepers were barely tested by David Stockdale did pull off an acrobatic save to deny Robert Tesche, the German midfielder whose well-driven volley was Forest’s best chance of the first half.
Kazenga LuaLua picked out Colunga just before half time but the Spaniard’s shot went straight to Forest’s stopper Karl Darlow.
Albion pushed forward again with Bruno Saltor finding Mackail-Smith who was alone up front. His header went wide.
After the interval Mackail-Smith was denied by the Forest defence and later he came even closer to breaking the deadlock.
Albion earned a crucial point and may feel that a win wouldn’t have been unwarranted.
On Tuesday (30 September) at 7.45pm they face Cardiff City in their Championship fixture at the Amex.
