The Noise Abatement Society has asked a heavy metal fan to present its annual awards this evening.
Hove Tory MP Mike Weatherley – a self-proclaimed metal head and Iron Maiden fan – will host the campaign group’s awards on the terrace at the House of Commons.
The society is based in Mr Weatherley’s constituency and has lobbied for less noise pollution for more than half a century.
This year it celebrates the 50th anniversary of the first Noise Abatement Act being passed into law.
The society’s annual John Connell Awards honour its founder and recognise individuals, councils and other organisations for outstanding contributions to battling noise pollution.
Mr Weatherley, who likes loud music, praised the society’s work. He even managed to pay tribute to Iron Maiden in his appropriately named maiden speech in the House of Commons.
