A crash has caused tailbacks on the A27 Brighton bypass.
The accident happened at about 10.15am this morning (Saturday 20 September) leading to tailbacks on the westbound side of the road.
A Land Rover towing a trailer appears to have jack-knifed between the Hollingbury and Patcham turn-offs.
Sussex Police said that the trailer had caused damage to the road surface and that the Highways Agency would carry out repairs as soon as possible.
Fuel leaked into drains too and the Environment Agency and East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service are assessing the situation.
One lane is open but traffic is queueing on the bypass with jams clogging up surrounding roads including those used by shoppers on the Hollingbury estate.
A traffic alert said: “One lane closed and very slow traffic due to accident on A27 westbound between A270 Lewes Road and A23 London Road (Patcham).
“The road was closed for around half an hour from around 10.30am. Tailback to Falmer.”
More traffic is expected in the area in the next few hours as fans arrive for the football match between Brighton and Hove Albion and Blackpool at the Amex stadium in Falmer, which kicks off at 3pm.
At 1.30pm, Brighton and Hove Buses reported delays of up to an hour.
Due to an accident on the A27 all services in the Patcham, Hollingbury, Coldean & Falmer area are are subject to delays of up to an hour.

By 2pm, the A27 was reopened, but delays continued.
A27 is now open at Hollingbury. Delays are now just sheer weight of traffic.
