Chestnut Tree House’s Hove charity shop will officially re-open on Saturday, seven weeks after it was wrecked by flash floods.
Thousands of pounds worth of damage was caused to the George Street shop in July and more than £5,000 worth of stock was lost.
The charity had no choice but to close the shop and wait for repair work to be carried out, and appeal to the public for donations of items to sell.
Sally Brighton, Director of Retail, said: “To see our shop flooded with ceiling tiles on the floor and our donated stock ruined was devastating.
“The repair bill was more than £2,000, on top of the stock loss and loss of trade, but luckily we are able to claim on our insurance for most of it.”
The flooding was inches deep at the rear of the shop. Staff and volunteers have been working hard to get the shop open as soon as possible.
Sally added: “They have all been very resilient and flexible during the closure and have worked really hard to get the shop ready to re-open for business. I am so grateful to them all.
“Thank you to our loyal customers for their patience during this time, and thank you so much to everyone who has so far donated items for us to sell. We do still need more donations of quality items, such as clothing, books, toys and bric-a-brac, soplease pop in on Saturday if you have anything you wish to donate.”
The shop will officially open to the public on Saturday 13 September at 11am.
