Traffic police have started a two-day campaign today targeting speeding drivers in Hove.
The officers, from the Sussex Police Road Policing Unit, will offer speeding drivers an alternative to a fine.
Instead, they will be expected to attend there and then a “Stop Speeding” presentation by East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service.
The scheme applies to drivers who break the 30mph limit by 10mph or less.
Sussex Police said: “Speeding is in the top three of complaints made to neighbourhood policing panels.
“Schemes are now in place to encourage drivers to make a personal commitment to keeping to the speed limit, improving the environment and recognising the dangers of speeding.”
The force hopes to make speeding as socially unacceptable as drink driving has become.
At the same time the Ape Theatre Company will deal with the subject in a production called Lethal Weapon in schools across Brighton and Hove.
