Sussex University staff are to hold a strike ballot over proposed job cuts.
About 150 members of the University and College Union attended a meeting at the Falmer campus on the edge of Brighton to discuss the job cuts.
They voted unanimously to hold a ballot.
The university proposes cutting 116 jobs to save £5 million.
The UCU is the largest trade union and professional association for academics, lecturers, trainers, researchers and academic-related staff.
One thing which has been over looked is the 6 security officers which are to be axed. 6 out of 16. Security is part of Estates and Facilites. No one else from estates and facilites ( Only Security Officers ) are having their jobs Axed. so that makes it 37.4 ( Approx ) of security to be cut. Sussex University tell their students and staff that there is 365 days a year 24/7 security. Divide 10 officers into a year and see how can that be safe? The University has at present three agency staff making up the numbers. These staff are not trained to the University spec. They are not first aid trained or De fib. trained. They do not know the campus. these are the people who will be replacing in house security officers. The whole thing is an accicdent waiting to happen.
