The three extensive power cuts to have hit Brighton in the last few weeks are not connected, UK Power Networks says.
Last night’s half-hour outage to 800 customers in East Brighton followed another in the same area which affected 2,000 homes on August 6.
And on July 31, another outage hit about 500 homes, businesses and council offices along Brighton seafront.
Today, UK Power Networks said that it was just coincidence that the city has been hit by the hat-trick of power cuts.
A spokesman said: “UK Power Networks staff were called to carry out checks on a substation in Whitehawk Road, Brighton, yesterday at the request of East Sussex Fire Service. No damage was found and no customers were affected.
“We can confirm that the three separate incidents in different parts of Brighton reported since July 31 are unconnected and do not signify any particular issue with the network in the city.
“However we do understand how difficult it is to be without electricity and would like to apologise to those affected in recent weeks.”
The spokesman also said that reports of a bang and smoke coming from a substation in Whitehawk Road at the same time last night’s power cut started were unsubstantiated, and that no damage was found there.
A spokeswoman for East Sussex Fire and Rescue said that investigators concluded the fire in Manor Way which caused the August 6 power cut was caused by an electrical fault and not intentional. Further investigations were carried out by UK Power Networks.
