A Brighton-based quango is one of those to have escaped in the cost-cutting cull announced by the government.
The Pensions Regulator, based in Trafalgar Place, Brighton, was given a reprieve.
Ministers recognised that its decisions have to be seen to be politically impartial so felt that it should be at arms’ length from a civil service department headed by a politician.
The regulator is sponsored by the Department for Work and Pensions.
It was set up six years ago to regulate more than 50,000 company and work-based pension schemes.
About 300 staff work at the offices near Brighton Station although, despite the regulator’s survival, some of those jobs may yet be at risk.
