The Albion were held by relegation-threatened Huddersfield and were grateful for a late Bruno Saltor equaliser.
It salvaged a point at the John Smith’s stadium.
Midfielder Oliver Norwood’s free kick put Town in front on five minutes.
Tomasz Kuszczak had to make some smart saves throughout the match and Craig Mackail-Smith was introduced with half an hour left.
With Reading beaten 3-0 at Wigan, Albion move into the last play-off place but all eyes will be on Ipswich at Watford tomorrow (Saturday 19 April).
Albion take on another relegation-threatened team in the shape of Blackpool at the Amex on Monday (21 April).
