The lights on Brighton and Hove’s Christmas tree are to be turned on by the mayor this afternoon (Monday 25 November).
The Christmas tree stands beside the floral clock in Palmeira Square, Hove.
Festivities will start at 3.30pm with the children of Davigdor Infant School singing Christmas carols in St John the Baptist Church in Church Road, Hove.
The Christmas tree lights will be turned on at 4.20pm by the Mayor of Brighton and Hove Councillor Denise Cobb.
This will be accompanied by carols from the Rotary Club choir.
The annual event nearly didn’t happen this year after Brighton and Hove City Council decided not to run it for safety reasons.
The council was concerned about children crossing the road from the church to the tree.
However, it has been taken over by Brunswick Town in Bloom who will have help from Sussex Police to supervise the crossing.
