Three mobile phone masts will go up on the roof of a Hove pub if the T-Mobile and 3 networks have their way.
Brighton and Hove City Council has received a planning application from a company that acts for both networks – MBNL (Mobile Broadband Network Limited).
They want to put up three antennas and an equipment cabinet on the roof of The Providence at 130 Western Road, Hove. The building is also known as Sussex House and is next door to a listed building.
Paul Elgood, Liberal Democrat councillor for Brunswick and Adelaide, said on his blog: “We are asking residents to join us in objecting to the application.
“We believe that it is significant in size, close to homes and above a building which has been used as a nursery.
“Mobile phone masts are a necessary evil, but we also believe people have the right to live free from health fears over them.
“This is too close to local homes and a less intrusive site should be found.
“This proposal significantly upgrades the existing equipment there and because of its size is especially cause for concern.”
Cllr Elgood said that anyone wishing to comment on the planning application should send an email to planning.applications@brighton-hove.gov.uk or write to the Planning Department, Brighton and Hove City Council, Hove Town Hall, Norton Road, Hove, BN3 3BQ.
Yes, this was approved yesterday and I would like to point out that this building is STILL used as a nursery. One of my children goes there and this is certainly something I am not happy about.
I understand there were a few abstentions on the vote of the planning committee and I am am finding out if there is any right of appeal on this.
I would also be interested in finding out about the health concerns, as these are not clear to me at this point.
I would also like to know who owns this building.
