Brighton cyclists were stopped in St James´s Street yesterday as part of an “action day”.
Eight Sussex Police officers stopped people cycling the wrong way down the one-way street and gave them fixed penalty notices.
Chris Cooke, chairman of the St James´s Area Local Action Team (LAT), said: “Residents and businesses along St James’s have highlighted the problem of cyclists speeding down the one-way street against the flow of traffic.
“So the local action team in conjunction with the neighbourhood police organise these action days to try to re-educate these road users before we have a serious accident on our hands.”
