A Sussex University professor congratulated hundreds of pupils at Hove Park School on their achievements at a prizegiving ceremony last night (Thursday 7 March).
Professor Richard Black, head of the School of Global Studies at Sussex, was the guest of honour at the annual awards at Hove Town Hall.
Students were awarded prizes for outstanding achievement and progress in all subjects.
And for the first time this year teachers were also awarded prizes after being nominated by students for awards such as Most Helpful Teacher and Best Planner.
About 700 guests were entertained as students performed dance and drama excerpts from the musical Little Shop of Horrors.
Head teacher Derek Trimmer said: “The evening was a fantastic opportunity to celebrate the huge achievements of those students who constantly and consistently push themselves to go the extra mile.
“It was great to share in their success and to have an opportunity to thank their parents and the staff for their role in supporting this achievement.”
