A fire damaged the Queen Victoria pub in Rottingdean in the early hours of this morning (Tuesday 5 February).
East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service said that crews from Hove and Preston Circus in Brighton responded to reports of a fire at the pub, in High Street, Rottingdean, shortly after 2am.
They contained the fire on the ground floor and spent just over an hour at the pub.
The fire service said: “On arrival, crews confirmed a fire on the ground floor of the property and used four breathing apparatus and two hose reel jets to tackle the blaze, which was quickly brought under control.”
A positive pressure ventilation fan was then used to disperse the smoke from the property.
Two people were inside the building when the fire started but were alerted by a passer-by and made it out safely.
The cause of the fire is believed to be accidental.
