A toddler has been injured in a hit and run in Brighton and today (Wednesday 17 January) police have issued an appeal for witnesses and information including any camera footage.
Sussex Police said: “We are appealing for witnesses after a toddler was left injured in Springfield Road, Brighton.
“Police were called on Sunday (14 January) to reports that a child had been hit by a car.
“The incident occurred at around 2.15pm and the driver did not stop at the scene.
“A witness to the hit and run described the vehicle as grey and small.
“The child attended hospital and is expected to make a full recovery from their injuries.
“If you have information to report in relation to the investigation, you can contact us via our online form or by calling 101 quoting reference 651 of 14/1.”
Was the toddler unsupervised, or did the car mount the pavement? Parents/guardians are there to protect the children, so where was the parent or guardian? Were they there but just texting and neglecting to look after the child, or not there?
So may things just don’t add up here. There was “a witness”? Is that the parent/guardian?
Something is definately wrong with this version of what happened.
This one right here officer
There’s not a lot of information avalible but a toddler probably wouldn’t have been unsupervised.
Point is the driver drove off from the scene and that’s not good, what have they got hide, drunk, drugged, no licence, no insurance, no MOT, stolen vehicle.
No reason why the driver didn’t stop.
Stop trying to victim blame, driver 100% at fault as they didn’t stop.
🙄 irrespective of if the toddler was supervised or unsupervised, the point is the car did not stop was probably speeding, or driving whilst texting on their phone! It’s a hit and run! Someone ran over a child and did not stop.
Toddlers have the tendencies to run off without warning, have no road awareness. It can take a split second.
Thank goodness there are proper authorities to investigate accidents like this, rather than people who mistakenly think they are an authority.
Are you Big Brother? Is nobody else allowed to speculate or comment? Does the driver not deserve thier side of their story as well? Both probably were at fault TBH.
People can have their opinions of course just like you.
The driver drove off, therefore, already committed an offence, why did they drive off?
“but a toddler probably wouldn’t have been unsupervised.” Anecdotal but plenty and plenty of times I’ve seen children close to the edge of the payment roads length away from thier parents. Once just outside Brighton station a couple, no care in the world where their toddlars running off to and you know how busy it gets there! Like I say both probably at fault. “Stop trying to victim blame” Is that a new fancy liberal term? Liberals love being victims. “It’s never my fault”

Interesting comments that begs answering.
The article didn’t state an age, just a toddler. What age is a toddler ?
One can only make comments on the information provided, my view a toddler is up to age five. If or not being supervised is another matter, hence my comment ‘Probably’.
Being a parent myself, I know how quick a situation can change and how something like a squirrel darting up a tree can distract a small child.
I am sure some parents do allow their children to run off as you’ve described and I have no argument with you.
Now then, here’s the thing, we can assume many things about this incident, we can say poor parenting, could be the child ran off, or maybe the car mounted the pavement we don’t know.
The car driver at the end of the day has hit a child, the circumstances in the lead up are irrelevant because the driver didn’t stop, a legal requirement.
Why did they not stop?
Not impossible but unlikely the driver was unaware they had hit a child so one can only assume they had something to hide, drugged, drunk, no licence, no insurance, no mot, stolen vehicle to name a few, therefore the Driver is 100% responsible.
The victim here is an innocent child, lets not forget that. What action or lack of action from any parent/career in this matter can be assumed only, what if the car mounted the pavement or came out of a drive, hence my comment stop victim blaming. Until we know the whole story, the driver is guilty of a traffic offence of leaving the scene and more likely the cause of the incident.
Exactly..Well said!
How can the toddler be at fault? Still a baby ! “DRIVERS SIDE OF THE STORY” You kidding me??? He drove off…that says it all!

Unfortunately some people just haven’t got a clue.
The fact the driver drove off gives me a clue of who is to blame in this scene, sadly others want to point at the victim. Just shows their lack of intelligence imo.
“How can the toddler be at fault?” Where was I blaming the child exactly! Can you not read or makes sense of sentences? I agree on what Mart Burt says but I still think poor parenting is a big part of child road accidents. Purely from what I see regularly and thats only just what I see!
The fault is with the driver not the parents. It is unfair to portion blame, no parent would intentionally put their child at risk. It’s simple the driver failed to stop at the scene and caused injury to a child. The driver should come forward and take responsibility.
