Scores of pro-Palestinian protesters held a rally outside Peter Kyle MP’s office today, demanding he back calls for a ceasefire.
About 60 demonstrators, including some former Labour members expelled when Jeremy Corbyn was leader, waved flags and chanted: “Long live Palestine!”
They also stuck a letter on the window of the Hove MP’s office, signed “the residents of Brighton”.
The protest was one of several held by Palestine Action across the UK.
Protesters expressed disappointment that Labour Party leader Sir Keir Starmer failed to recognise “international war crimes committed by Israel”.
In an interview with LBC in the wake of Hamas launching a murderous assault on Israeli civilians, Sir Keir had appeared to suggest that Israel has “the right” to withhold energy and water from Gaza.
But Sir Keir argued on Friday that he had intended to say that Israel has the right to defend itself and retrieve the around 200 hostages being held “within international law”.
Ahmed Ali, an asylum-seeker whose family is still in Gaza, said after the Hove protest: “I urge Peter Kyle to call on the Prime Minister Rishi Sunak to condemn Israel’s war crimes, put pressure on Israel to call a ceasefire and for them to facilitate humanitarian aid entering Gaza.
“I need them to ensure that my family and my people will survive.”
Dan Hadley, doctor and Medact Brighton co-ordinator, said: “There has to be a ceasefire and humanitarian access right now.
“But for such atrocities to never happen again, Israel also has to end the siege of Gaza and the occupation of the West Bank for good, tear down its apartheid walls and respect the right of Palestinians to return to their homes and live freely.”
Mr Kyle said: “The actions of Hamas on Israeli people was truly atrocious. I, along with my colleagues in the Labour Party, unwaveringly support Israel in their fight against Hamas terror.
“However, all actions of self-defence must be carried out within international law and must not target civilians or the health workers that are providing them with much-needed critical care.
“Keir Starmer has stated that civilians must not be targeted and called for humanitarian corridors providing food, water, electricity and medicines.”
Also present at the protest was Tony Greenstein, who was expelled from Labour for sending members abuse including anti-semitic tropes and who was convicted in May of planning to violently attack an Israeli-owned drone factory.
Becky Massey, who was expelled for supporting Chris Williamson MP when he said Labour had been “too apologetic” over anti-semitism, helped pin posters to the office’s windows.
“They also stuck a letter on the window of the Hove MP’s office, signed “the residents of Brighton”.
Says it all, really.
What???
The absolute Ignorance being displayed here about this tragedy is absolutely disgusting!! Nobody is denying that what happened on October 7 was a War Crime, it was an Atrocity and nobody can defend those Actions. But what the Fascist IDF are doing now by FAR exceeds that, FAR and away, this is way beyond Self Defence now, way beyond…..these are Massacres taking place and people on here are turning a blind eye to it??
You simply CANNOT defend what the Israelis government are doing now, in repeating the sick parrot like lines of Sunak, Starmer and the weasel like Kyle In saying “ Israel has the right to defend itself “ you are trying to defend the Indefensible……ever heard of Two wrongs do not a Right make???
Simply spewing out Western Propaganda BS is not enough, not nearly enough!! Go get yourself informed on the subject before speaking out with your Hateful comments or you risk coming across as extreme as the IDF!! The oppressed people of Palestine have been suffering from this since 1948, and constant attacks and atrocities against them now since 1956, with pauses every now and then!!
Everyone liked to cheer and applaud when the South African Apartheid regime was defeated ( Quite rightly so too!) but what’s been going on in Gaza for the past 56 years has been even worse- the Israeli government’s own version of Apartheid!!
The indiscriminate Bombing of Innocent Civilians must STOP!!! We’re now up to almost 10,000 deaths in Gaza of Palestinian people from Air Strikes alone, with up to 5,000 of those deaths being children- how many Deaths are enough for some of you people???
The Good people who protested outside the office of the Snake called Peter Kyle were absolutely correct and should be acclaimed as individuals of Good Conscience, unlike the awful Tory Government, and an even worse so called opposition party- which in reality is nothing of the sort, it’s merely an extension of the Tories, Tory Party Mk 2 is what Starmerlite and his Blairite Brigade really are, and anyone that can’t or won’t see that, hasn’t got the Sense that God gave Geese!!!
Sunak one can argue is just an awful ignorant Twat, who looks much like a Pompous arrogant Eton College Boy, totally out of touch with any form of reality whatsoever, and apparently lacking in any real worthwhile Life experience……. But with Starmer and Kyle, it’s absolutely unforgivable!!
If there’s any truths at all in the rumours that Starmer was once a Human Rights Lawyer, ( and I’m struggling to find any proof of Humanity within Starmer right now!) then he needs to be removed from his position of Party Leader ( okay Tory Party B team leader!) immediately, because he has shown himself woefully inadequate to be in a position of leadership and authority! In being complicit in the vile Atrocities and ongoing War Crimes against the Palestinian People, he has now revealed himself to be a Spiritual Cripple, we already knew long ago that he was Morally Bankrupt!!
As for Peter Kyle, if indeed, he was once an Aid Worker himself, then he should also hang his head in shame on towing the pathetic Party line, which all of the awful Blairite Fiends repeat like Soulless Automatons!!…..the likes of the vile Liz Kendall, Thornberry, Lammy, Reeves, will all need to ask themselves some serious questions as to whether they are still members of the Human Race???
Disgusting Comments displaying shocking levels of Ignorance and systematic Brainwashing of the Masses ( 🐑🐑🐑🐑🐑🐑) only serve to further divide and distract from the Absolute Horrors of what is happening out there in Gaza!!
What were they protesting against? Hamas killing more Israelis than citizens were killed in 9/11 by ISIS or demonstrating for Hamas to release the little children they are holding hostage who they posed terrified after being taken from their dead parents with machine guns. Or were they protesting against Hamas raping women or beheading people for being Gay. Perhaps they were protesting against Hamas refusing to let Palestinians citizens escape Gaza inspite of Israelis giving 24 hours notice to evacuate. Or were they just defending the rights of terrorists such as Hamas. Hopefully, if it was the later the police will arrest them.
Well said, Sarah. As a “resident of Brighton” I would not want to be included among those who have conveniently forgotten the atrocities committed by Hamas, which followed years of their rockets being fired into Israel. And I certainly would not want to be connected in any way with that arch idiot Tony Greenstein.
So Becky Massey thinks that Labour had been too apologetic about anti-semitism. That says it all. How can one be too apologetic about hate crime? Or is it just the Jews that she hates?
As for Dan Hadley, what about the right of the hostages, taken to Gaza by Hamas terrorists, to return to their homes and live freely? Or don’t they matter?
Oh nothing much really. Just genocide in Gaza. 4000 children dead, 2000 believe to be under rubble. Nothing to concern yourself about
WHY DOESN’T AHMED ALI OVER HERE ON THE ASYLUM BANDWAGON GET HIS ARSE BACK TO GAZA TO BE WITH HIS FAMILY TO HELP THEM HE GETS ASYLUM OVER HERE THEN STARTS DEMANDING WE DO THIS EVERYTIME HIS LOT START ON ISRAEL THEY’RE DANCING IN THE STREETS AND SPITTING ON THE CORPSES , THEN ISRAEL REACTS AND STARTS WINNING THEY ALL START BLEATING FOR A CEASEFIRE YOU JUST CAN’T START A WAR , THEN TURN IT OFF LIKE A TAP
I don’t know what they think Kyle can do about it.
Tony Greenstein was there, representing Brighton Residents. Interesting facts – :
– Last month Tony was sentenced to 80 hours community service for criminality.
– Tony was kicked out of Labour for offensive behaviour.
– Tony was kicked out of Unison Trade Union.
– Tony was declared bankrupt.
– Tony was designated a ” Notorious antisemite at a court hearing.
It is always interesting how right-wing scum always attack the person having nothing to say of any interest
Well at least we can see where all the terrorists are in Brighton and Hove along with useful idiots like tiny tony credit card thief.
THe genocide brigade is out today it would seem. Thus it ever was.
And whilst Gaza is being bombed the Zionists are stealing more land in the West Bank under the belief that god gave it to them
I don’t see any hope for a resolution to the conflict in the region. There is a series available on BBC Sounds called The Mandates , it explains how the French and British mandates, (and the betrayal) in the Middle East shaped the whole region in ways which still reverberate, a century on. The rmost Podacast of a the Today programme discussed the issue with an interview with Prof Neil Ferguson his expert opinions are chilling.
OOPs missed recent out of the above. The rmost recent Podacast ofthe Today programme discussed the issue with an interview with Prof Neil Ferguson his expert opinions are chilling.
Just some note, because people don’t understand what are the stakes.
Palestinian people are not the same as Hamas. Israel at the moment attacks West Bank, which had no Hamas governance at all. In Gaza strip the last time Palestinians had free election was in 2006. And most of the population that lives in Gaza was barely a child or not even alive that time: as around one million of the little bit above of 2 million population 18 or under. Around 700,000 of those are children. I would love to hope we do not punish children to the assumed crimes of their parents – sadly his is not the case.
At the moment no real humanitarian aid can reach the Gaza strip – which has no source of drinking water or food (as it was never really a state to start with). Whatever you feel the political solution is, starving children to death are not the one. By the way this strategy of indiscriminate bombing and starving out will effects the hostages too, not just Palestinians.
We have to note here, and these news are from Israeli newspapers – that Benjamin Netanyahu had boosted Hamas (see coverage of haaretz.com or The Times of Israel), due cynical calculation that Hamas action less likely help the achievement of two state solution (in this assessment he is right, Hamas is not exactly a freedom fighter organsiation). I don’t think Palestinians in Gaza Strip should be punished for the failure of Bibi and an organisation (Hamas) they had no chance to elect that was boosted by the Israeli Prime Minister.
The Palestinian authoritites say that more than 4,000 Palestinians have been killed in the air strikes and from the pictures of collapsed residential tower blocks, I am inclined to believe this. 40% of the Palestinian population are children – so that makes 1,600 dead kids so far with no doubt a larger number mutilated but still alive. Is genocide really the answer to terrorism?
More so, there is probably a life loss that going on and will go due the lack of food and water. UNICEF warned about this already how the situation escalates. WHO had been marking that how essential would be to have enough water to reach the population in Gaza Strip.
And this at best ethnic cleansing (removal of a population), worst genocide is not a solution of terrorism as you said. The surviving children more likely radicalised. Sadly.
They should have left. They were given safe passage and warned to get out but instead Hamas urged them to stay to be human shields. The Palestinians voted in a terrorist organisation and sadly in wars civilians also suffer.
Sorry, where exactly? And with what exactly? We are talking of a population above 2 million with no real access of transportation just alone for the people to leave, yet alone to have resources given. I have the feeling you have no idea of the circumstances of the situation. The amount of buses (couches) Gaza Strip mush have to able to execute that is like the thousands. And again, where to go exactly?
Are you aware the right of return policies, or more exactly the lack of right of return? If you are a Palestinian refugee you will never ever will be able to go back to West Bank or Gaza, ever.
On the Hamas side, I am not going to defend them. They are not for the civilians. But neither IDF wants to keep civilian causality down. In fact the policy you say – which is not phoning by the way but “roof knocking” with a lesser bomb is been no more practiced. Again, this is indiscriminate war. And you can see it by reading the Israeli officials statement calling all Palestinians, not Hamas terrorist, animals. That includes the 700,000 children. Again, think whatever you want of the adults (they are not all terrorist of course), even if you assume that they are terrorist, children are not born with a gene of terrorism.
Also this “sadly civilians has to die in the war – this is exactly what is Hamas’ narrative too, you know that, right? The only difference between Hamas and IDF at the moment is the ability to execute that genocidal indiscriminate war.
(I will also note here once again: Bibi had been making comment – the prime minister of Israel – to support Hamas materially, because that is the best bet against Palestinian state).
Anyone normal would have got out. Unlike Hamas the Israelis even telephone people before they bomb and they were given many days warning by the IDF to leave and a safe route passage out of Gaza. Don’t forget Hamas also have families and were urging people to stay so chances are the dead civilians were terrorists too or families of terrorists. I’m afraid the Israelis have a right to protect their civilians too and not just be relaxed about Hamas sticking bullets in babies which apparently they did as they said babies make troublesome hostages so it is better shooting them. I’m afraid these people should be protesting against Hamas and if they support terrorists move to a country that shares their values. I’m sure the home office would buy them a flight.
Keeping people penned up in what ammounts to an open prison and then bombing them, their places of worship, their hospitals, collectively punishing them by cutting off food, water, electricity, these are all war crimes and can’t be excused, no matter what’s happened recently (which was awful), or in the past.
Ceasfire then progress the UN mandated two state solution. Prosecute war crimes.
By all means wipe out Hamas but don’t massacre innocent people to do it.
Hamas entered roughly 30 communities, they butchered babies, they burnt them alive, they pulled a baby out of a pregnant mum and then beheaded the baby and beheaded the mum, they raped young girls.
