Police have arrested two Brighton men on suspicion of raping a 19-year-old woman on one of the town’s beaches.
The men, aged 32 and 34, were arrested last night (Thursday 4 October) and have been interviewed today.
They have been released on conditional bail until November while detectives continue
Sussex Police issued a fresh appeal for anyone who saw or who knows about the rape which happened on Friday 7 September.
Detective Inspector Ian Still, of Brighton & Hove CID, said: “These suspects were identified as part of our thorough ongoing investigation, which has included speaking to a number of people who were out that night and an extensive trawl for CCTV.
“We have been able to narrow down the time we are interested in to between 1.15am and 2.20am in the early hours of Thursday into Friday.
“We now know that the woman was seen leaving the Oceana night club and we believe the offence took place on the beach near the bottom of West Street.
“We are still very keen to hear from anyone else who may be able to help – particularly if you saw a woman looking distressed between these times or if you saw three men acting suspiciously or running away from the area.
“Brighton and Hove is a safe place to live and visit, with its nightlife enjoyed by thousands each week.
“When serious offences like this happen, we fully support victims and will work tirelessly to bring offenders to justice.”
Anyone with information who hasn’t yet spoken to police is asked to call 101 or the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
