Another bank branch in Brighton is to close its doors by the end of the year in Portslade.
Lloyd’s Bank, 57-58 Station Road, is to close on 9 November, 2023.
Lloyd’s Banking Group told customers by letter and online notice that the branch would close due to the switch to digital banking and falling branch visits.
According to their closure report, transactions at the Portslade and West Hove branch fell more than 67 percent between 2017 and 2022.
A Lloyds Bank spokesperson said: “As many customers now choose to bank online or through their mobile app, visits to our Portslade and West Hove branch have fallen over recent years.
“When the branch closes in November, customers can continue to bank with us online, over the phone, in person at the Hove branch or the local Post Office on Station Road.”
Lloyd’s Bank said that all staff at the Station Road branch will be offered a role at another branch or in another part of the business.
The branch is currently open from Monday to Friday 9am to 3.30pm and serves around 253 regular customers according to a closure review.
The Station Road Lloyd’s Bank branch has a cashpoint, self-service machines and counter services.
When closed, the closest branch for customers will be in Church Road, Hove which is around 15 minutes away.
Lloyd’s Bank said local residents can also use the nearby Post Office for banking services on Station Road, and there are eight free-to-use ATMs within a mile of the closing branch.
A second part of the Branch Review, including comments and feedback from local consultation, is due to be available at least two weeks before closure.
Reacting to the news on social media, resident Ross Collins said: “To be fair they only open part time hours as it is, if you want anything sorted they ask you to go to Church Road, pretty pointless branch.”
Sad, this has been there for at least 30 years.
Amazing Branch and wonderful staff. I do not agree with the social media quote. Opens the same times as many branches now and I have never been told to go elsewhere. Not a “pointless branch”, it has been part of our community for years and my weekly visit is always lovely. The ladies there always greet me with a smile and go above and beyond. I will certainly miss them and hope they will be ok wherever they go.
really sad that this branch has to go .There is a lot of elderly who can’t cope with on line banking etc..The staff always very helpful and happy .It will be a great miss to us all
So sad it is well used staff are so lovely speak to us by name not only is it older people that do not know how to bank on line our have the phone to do it with at this rate we will become a wordless society so nice to have staff that are so friendly please don’t close some of us can’t go to far and what will happen there will be longer queue at the other branches myself for one cannot stand to long retain your lovely friendly bank and staff
So the last of the big banks finally closes its doors in Portslade. It’s a sign of the times I suppose, but it is also not helpful to those who do not bank electronically. It is all very well saying you can now do your banking at a Post Office, but how long will it be before that closes in Portslade as well? Station/Boundary road is wilting and dying into a sea of coffee and charity shops!
Lost the branch in Shoreham, lost the one in Southwick now losing the one in Portslade, now we have to go to the one in Hove, how long before that closes, why does not Lloyds and Barclays get together and do a joint branch, there is enough room in Portslade, doing this would help numerous people and keep staff in a place that they love to work.Im too old and do not like using online stuff, KEEP it open please, staff are fantastic
Not good for the people who cannot do online banking. Its a social issue as well.Ie the elderly like a face to face chat with the wonderful staff. On matters of importance. And also reassurance.
