Tottenham Hotspur 3 Brighton & Hove Albion 1
Albion are out of the FA Cup at the 4th round stage after an early wonder strike from England captain Harry Kane and a fortuitous effort from Emerson Royal that was eventually credited as a Solly March own goal.
In the second half, Albion pulled a goal back after a superb solo effort from Yves Bissouma.
The ball took a sizeable deflection off Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg.
Just as Albion were looking like they might restore parity, Son Heung-min went on a run.
As his shot hit Lewis Dunk and then ricocheted off Adam Webster towards goal, Kane made sure in a foot race towards goal with Webster, with the Spurs striker bundling the ball home.
Albion had the majority of the play in the second half but the game was all but up after Neal Maupay fluffed his lines soon after Kane’s second.
Maupay shot tamely at Hugo Lloris when clean through.
Albion are due to be back in Premier League action next Saturday (12 February) when they are scheduled to visit Watford.
Flattering score line, I don’t think so, we should have lost by five or six tbh.
We were slow as usual and offered nothing in the last third, Maupay so lame and couldn’t have scored even if he had a open goal to aim at, but hey, we all have off days. My only concern is we’re having too many off days generally, out the cup but we’re looking good for staying up and maybe if we win a few, maybe that top ten spot we desire is a possibility and I will take that.
Nah…flattered Brighton tbf. Spurs missed several sitters and BHA only scored on a crazy deflection. Brighton did enough to deserve a goal otherwise but should have shipped another couple to Spurs.
