A Brighton pub has been closed by Sussex Police.
The Bevendean Hotel, in Hillside, Moulsecoomb, was closed on Saturday after a number of fights.
Licensing officers issued a closure notice under the Licensing Act 2003.
Sussex Police said that the decision was taken due to a number of incidents this year resulting in serious violence and injuries and intelligence to suggest that further disorder was likely.
The pub will stay closed until a review takes place at Brighton Magistrates’ Court next week.
Chief Inspector Simon Nelson said: “A majority of licence holders in the city operate safe venues, requiring low levels of support and intervention by police.
“But there are occasions when we need to take robust action to prevent serious violence.
“I strongly believe that this decisive action has been in the interests of local communities.”
