Brighton and Hove Albion are due to play the Scottish champions Rangers in Glasgow later this month in a friendly.
The match – part of the Scottish club’s 150th anniversary celebrations – comes just a day before they host Real Madrid, runners up in La Liga to Atletico Madrid in 2020-21.
The Rangers first team squad includes former Brighton defender Connor Goldson, 28, who has played a pivotal role at Ibrox over the past three seasons.
But another Seagulls player who left for the Scottish champs, Jamie Murphy, 31, had his time with his boyhood idols cut short by injury.
Brighton and Hove Albion said today (Tuesday 6 July): “Albion will take on reigning Scottish Premiership champions Rangers at Ibrox on Saturday 24 July, kick-off 5.30pm.
“Both clubs are waiting on guidance from the government as to whether or not supporters will be able to attend the friendly.
“The match will come at the end of Albion’s pre-season trip to Scotland as preparations begin for their fifth consecutive Premier League campaign.
“Steven Gerrard’s team won their first top-flight title in 10 years in the 2020-21 campaign – an historic 55th league title.
“The rest of Albion’s pre-season friendlies will be announced in due course.”
