A Hove man has appeared in court charged with causing criminal damage to parked cars in Portslade.
Shouidur Rahman, 33, of Boundary Road, Hove, was also charged a number of other offences when he appeared at Brighton Magistrates’ Court yesterday (Thursday 10 September).
He was accused of causing criminal damage to vehicles belonging to Kathleen Dent and James Pearce in Vale Road on Saturday 22 February.
On the same date he was alleged to have assaulted PC Andy Trotter and another police officer, Jack Mounstephen, in Portland Road, Hove.
The defendant was charged with using racially or religiously threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour with intent to cause Christopher Stokes harassment, alarm or distress in Vale Road, Portslade, also on Saturday 22 February.
Last month Rahman was convicted of using racially or religiously threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour with intent to cause Justine Tordoff harassment, alarm or distress in Worcester Villas on Friday 21 February.
He was also convicted of harassment for shouting abuse, kicking a fence and entering Worcester Villas, Hove, on Friday 21 February.
The court was told that his actions breached a restraining order imposed at Brighton Magistrates’ Court in January.
On Monday (7 September) he was convicted of breaking a bail condition the night before by not being at his home address in Boundary Road, Hove.
He was remanded to appear at the same court on Friday 27 November.
Sussex Police said today (Friday 11 September): “Police investigating damage to parked cars in the South Portslade area have charged a man.
“Shouidur Rahman, 33, was charged with causing criminal damage after being arrested by officers on Sunday (6 September).
“He appeared at Brighton Magistrates’ Court on Thursday (10 September) and has been remanded while inquiries continue.
“Officers continue to investigate these incidents in Portslade and encourage anyone with further information, CCTV or dash cam footage to come forward.”
Superintendent Rachel Swinney, who is based in Brighton and Hove, said: “I want to make it clear that we will proactively pursue those who commit criminality and harm in our city.
“We remain committed to working alongside our local communities in order to reduce crime and keep Brighton and Hove a safe place to live and work in.
