Up to 4,000 people took part in the annual zombie walk through the centre of Brighton yesterday.
They started from Victoria Gardens at 3pm and lurched and shuffled their way to Concorde 2 in Madeira Drive where the Beach of the Dead after-party was held.
The route took them up Church Street, down Queen’s Road and West Street, and through the underpass on to the lower promenade.
From there they headed along the seafront to Concorde 2 past spoof anti-zombie protesters by the Palace Pier.
The protesters’ banners included slogans such as: “Eat custard creams not craniums.”
Several shoppers in the heart of Brighton looked baffled – but not as vacant as many of those taking part.
The costumes included a Colonel Gadaffi, a few Osama bin Ladens, several Amy Winehouses and an impressive Doctor Who.
One of those taking part said: “It’s a great excuse to get dressed up and made up and have a good time.
“I’m going to hit the beers and maybe later when we get started on the shots I’ll have some spirits and then tomorrow it’ll be the real dawn of the dead.”
