Two Hangleton councillors have issued their annual appeal for help to pay for Christmas parties for old people in residential care.
Tony Janio and Dawn Barnett, who represent Hangleton and Knoll on Brighton and Hove City Council, have raised £2,140 so far this year from local businesses and through the city’s two Conservative MPs.
The money will pay for two parties before Christmas and one in the new year.
Councillor Barnett said: “If any other businesses would like to make a donation, they should contact us.”
The parties at Christmas and in the new year will be held at Churchill House in Hangleton Road, Aldrington Place in Bellingham Crescent, and the Get Together Club in Harmsworth Crescent Community Centre.
Any money left over will be donated to older people’s groups and lunch clubs.
Councillor Barnett said: “We write to everyone who donates each year to account for every penny of how the money has been spent.”
