Brighton and Hove Albion and Brentford played out a bore draw at the Gtech Community Stadium in west London this evening (Wednesday 3 April).
Albion had the better chances towards the end of the match through substitute Danny Welbeck and fit-again Joao Pedro.
It was a game of solid build up play but very few clearcut chances.
Ivan Toney got the better of Jan Paul van Hecke but fired straight at Bart Verbruggen.
Soon after, Facundo Buonanotte received a pass from the unusually lively Adam Lallana but his shot was easily collected by Mark Flekken in the Brentford goal.
Lallana had a couple of shots on goal and, just before half time, Lewis Dunk and Yoane Wissa tangled in the Albion penalty area.
Perhaps it was indicative of Albion’s luck that a pitchside VAR check from referee Bobby Madley did NOT result in a penalty.
Both sides had good chances early in the second half but Albion, with their 67 per cent possession and 11 shots on goal, were unable to break down Brentford.
Next up, the Seagulls take on title-chasing Arsenal in the Premier League at the Amex on Saturday (6 April).
