Brighton and Hove Albion 1 Everton 1
Albion scraped a draw with Everton after Lewis Dunk headed in a 93rd minute equaliser at the Amex.
The Seagulls fell to a well-taken Jarrad Branthwaite goal on 73 minutes.
Soon after, Billy Gilmour was sent off with a straight red for an initially fairly innocuous-looking challenge on Everton midfielder Amadou Onana.
Before this, and mainly in the first half, Albion had plenty of chances to go in front.
Dunk and Van Hecke both had glorious chances from headers and Danny Welbeck found himself one on one with Jordan Pickford on more than one occasion.
Ansu Fati came on and looked lively and Julio Enciso made his long-awaited return from injury.
But not for the first time, Brighton enjoyed most of the possession yet struggled to make it count.
The Seagulls remain in seventh place in the Premier League, with attention switching to the FA Cup next.
On Wednesday, Brighton travel to Wolverhampton Wanderers for their fifth round tie which is due to kick off at 7.45pm.
