A woman died in a fire in Hove this morning (Tuesday 24 October) despite the best efforts of paramedics to save her.
Firefighters brought her out of the blazing flat in Kingston Close, Hangleton, after a 999 call at about 5am.
This evening, Sussex Police said that the 42-year-old woman had died and that her next of kin had been told.
She was named locally as Louisa Tipping and grew up in Brighton. She was a Stanley Deason student in the 1990s.
Sussex Police issued an appeal for witnesses and information as an investigation continues into the cause of the fire and the death of Louisa Tipping.
The force said: “Police are appealing for witnesses after a woman sadly died in a house fire in Hove this morning (24 October).
“Emergency services were called to a house fire in Kingston Close shortly after 5am.
“A 42-year-old woman was treated at the scene by paramedics but was sadly pronounced deceased a short time later.
“Her next of kin have been informed and are currently being supported.
“An investigation is under way with the fire service to fully understand the circumstances behind this tragic incident.
“Anyone who witnessed anything suspicious or has any information that can help is asked to contact police online or via 101, quoting Operation Compton.”
Kingston Close and West Way have been closed again this evening while firefighters make safe the structure of the damaged building which also houses Hangleton Library.

RIP baby girl . I’m late , I only just heard . 💔. Wtf??? As you can see I’m lost for words & im crying like a girl (so what!☺️) You clearly sent me a sign as around that time I was woken up by my smoke alarm , room fully smoked out , shook , but no fire. Just left pot on & fell asleep. Anyway , I’m certain you are up in heaven telling me to fix up. Thank you for showing me what true love was / is. Walking through snow & sh*t. You will never be forgotten or replaced. 💙. I will guarantee that the world remember you as the realest & kindest woman I ever met. I will obviously honour the orders you gave me if you left this earth before me . Until I see you again , rest up. We shared something unique & special . Condolences to Louisa’s family . 🕊️🕊️🕊️💔💔💔
