A ramp between Black Rock and the Undercliff Walk and Asda car park at Brighton Marina is due to close temporarily from today (Friday 20 October).

The five-day closure is to allow for electrical work to be carried out.

Brighton and Hove City Council said: “The ramp between the Undercliff Walk and Asda car park will close on Friday 20 October for approximately five days while work is carried out by UK Power Network.

“The steps next to the ramp will still be open for people to use but a diversion will be in place for any pedestrians and cyclists who need to use the ramp.

“Anyone who needs to use the ramp and is heading westbound along the undercliff path should go up the ramp to the A259 and back down to the Marina/Madeira Drive via the subway tunnel.

“Pedestrians and cyclists heading eastbound along Madeira Drive/Promenade will either need to head to the Marina using the southern subway or to the undercliff path via the north subway to the A259 and back down the ramp north of Asda car park.

“All pedestrians and cyclists will be able to enter and leave the Marina using the southern subway.

“We apologise for any inconvenience.”

It’s actually been closed since Wednesday with pathetic signage leaving loads of walkers confused and angry. I walked the coastal path on Thursday and ended up being blocked by a fence and a worker who said I have to go back and around. Apparently it’s all signposted. I retraced my steps and found the sign which was smaller than A4 size and stuck to the side of a fence.

I agree, we have a few ramps that this could refer to in that area. I assume it is talking about the pedestrian walkway that leads from the Asda carpark area, alongside the beach walkway.

Or the one that leads from the same at Asda just a little due north that leads onto the coastal road.

What are you calling a “ramp”? it’s not clear and therefore not very helpful.
Cars and public transport have used ramps to get in and out of the marina since the late 1970s but maybe those aren’t the ramps you mean.
    Wot u talkin bout Willis??

Yet more confusion caused by those Transients in
OUR TOWNHALL. Do they actually meet and discuss anything in that townhall of OURS ?

What a mess! How much longer are we local residents going to be inconvenienced by whatever is going on on the Marina.
Appalling signage – constantly rerouted … very fed up with walking through a building site

It is a minor inconvenience at best for a few days. Calm down Lizzy.

Agree with the confused. Not informative. There is a road ramp at the eastern marina arm, a pedestrian winding ramp at the Asda car park and the subway pedestrian ramp east of the marin asccess roads. 4/10 for clarity.

Disgraceful that we didn’t know about it until we’d made the journey there and it was too late. One boy in a wheelchair ANd another 3 children in tow. Heavy rain had caused the Undercliff to flood so access on the diversion had become treacherous/dangerous and hazardous to our electric wheelchair. Completely thoughtless and irresponsible!
