Dog poo bags dumped after council removes bin

Dog poo bags dumped after council removes bin

A pile of dog poo bags has built up on Hollingbury Golf Course after people left them where a bin used to be.

Dog walkers who regularly use the public footpaths on the golf course shared their anger on social media after spotting the pile close to Hollingbury Hillfort, a scheduled ancient monument.

The pile of about 20 bags has built up in recent weeks, with regular walkers describing it as an example of “lazy dog walkers” relying on the “dog poo fairies”.

The bin was removed as Brighton and Hove City Council reviews the location of dog poo bins throughout the area and tries to encourage people to use standard litter bins instead.

Joy Flowers, who regularly walks her dog in the area, said: “Why take the bins away without notification? And how about leaving one?

“The small bin is convenient if you access the area off Ditchling Road. But I’m always over the other side so the bin on the hillfort was, and had been for many years, great.”

The council said: “We are in the process of removing all off-road dog waste bins. We have no vehicles that can drive off-road and access to the bins is often impossible during periods of wet weather.

“Moving heavy bins long distances by hand is an unacceptable health and safety hazard for our staff.

“We are hoping we can work with the management of the golf course to agree alternative sites for bins.

“In the meantime, there are still some dog bins in the general area of the golf course. We would ask dog walkers to use these other bins for the time being.”

Dog walkers who bag their dog’s poo and chuck it anywhere are disgusting.

I’ve heard them say ‘it’s ok, the bags are biodegradable’.

So, we have to put up with their sh… until the bags biodegrade?

Selfish people. Clean up after your loved ones.

TBH it’s high time there was a dog walking tax to pay for bins etc, or bring back the dog licence.

Council says: “We are in the process of removing all off-road dog waste bins”. No consultation about this first. No look at the likely implications. Wow!

Why have these bins existed where they are for decades? To encourage people to pick up after their dogs. It is proven and it works. Remove them and fewer people will pick up. Not good, but that is the reality – again proven by various studies

So, in essence, the council has decided that we should have more dog poo in our parks, woods etc. Methods to empty these bins have been found for years – but now, without consultation, this is impossible for our inept council. In summary, more dogs (after pandemic increases), fewer dog poo bins and removed from key sites.

Just like restricting waste in the tip resulted in fly tipping. Remove amenities, you remove goodwill and community spirit. A gradual and inexorable decline into anarchy awaits.
All I see is BHCC doing less and less for more and more. There is no good news from these jokers any more.

For the same reasons they provide street bins, to keep areas clean and tidy.

Can’t we have a more grown-up alternative to the infantile non-word “poo” in referring to excrement, dung, droppings or even the perfectly valid, if less polite, s**t?

“Poo” is the reaction of a very young child to an unpleasant smell. It was NEVER applied to one of any number of possible sources of such a smell.

    Grow up please.
