The nephew of former boxing world champion Chris Eubank was given a suspended prison sentence for failing to take a breath test after a crash in Hove.
Luke Eubanks – the nephew of Chris Eubank senior and cousin of Chris Eubank junior – pleaded guilty to failing to take a breath test. He also admitted having cannabis.
Luke Simon Eubanks, 35, of Old Shoreham Road, had been at the wheel of a Range Rover which was damaged after crashing into parked cars near his home and damaging them.
The court was told that the offences happened in the early hours of Saturday 5 October 2019.
At Brighton Magistrates’ Court yesterday (Tuesday 23 February) Eubanks was banned from driving for three years.
He was given a 23-week prison sentence suspended for two years and ordered to carry out 40 days of rehabilitation activity.
The presiding magistrate Rosalind Buchan said that the offence was so serious that it warranted a custodial sentence.
She also said: “The defendant appeared to be very intoxicated and his driving caused a risk of serious injury to the public”.
Eubanks was also ordered to pay a £122 victim surcharge and £85 prosecution costs, making a total of £207.
The bench also ordered that the cannabis be forfeited and destroyed.
Brighton magistrates fined Eubanks previously – in May 2015 – for having cannabis and being drunk and disorderly.
The class B drug was found on him after he was arrested in Church Road, Hove, a few weeks earlier in April.
