Their actions won praise from a senior officer.
Sussex Police said this morning: “Police officers and members of the public saved a woman from going into the sea at Brighton.
“At 9.15pm on Tuesday (26 November) police were called to the beach at Brighton off Madeira Drive following a report that woman was in a distressed state there and was intending to walk into the sea.
“However, two of our officers and nearby members of the public brought her to safety within a few minutes before she could do so.
“The 26-year-old woman was unhurt and was detained under the Mental Health Act for specialist medical assessment and treatment.”
Detective Superintendent Jeff Riley said: “This was great work by our officers and local people acting together to help this woman and ensure her safety.
“Those involved have without doubt saved this female from placing herself in harm’s way.”
